Congratulations on taking the important step toward enhancing your appearance! At Leong Facial Plastic Surgery, we prioritize your well-being both during and after your procedure. Proper post-operative care is critical to achieving the best possible results, and we are committed to guiding you through every stage of your recovery.
What to Expect After Surgery
Immediately after your procedure, you will be moved to the recovery area, where you will be closely monitored as the anesthesia wears off. Once you are awake and stable, you will be moved to your recovery room for rest. Depending on the type of surgery, Dr. Leong may recommend that you stay overnight for additional care. While every patient’s recovery is unique, here are some common aspects of the post-operative process:
- Swelling and Bruising: Swelling and bruising are common after facial surgery, and the extent can vary depending on the procedure. Swelling may peak within the first few days and gradually subside over the following weeks. Ice packs can help reduce swelling in the initial recovery period.
- Discomfort and Pain: Mild discomfort is expected, and Dr. Leong will prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort during your recovery. You may also be prescribed antibiotics to minimize the risk of infection.
- Bandages and Dressings: For certain procedures, you may be required to wear bandages or dressings to protect the surgical site. These will be removed during your first post-operative visit.
