What Is Dysport®?

Dysport® is an injectable neurotoxin that temporarily smooths out wrinkles and creases, creating a softer, more youthful appearance. As we age, facial expressions like laughing, smiling, or squinting cause lines to form and deepen. Over time, these wrinkles become more noticeable as the skin loses elasticity. Dysport® is commonly used to treat the same areas as BOTOX®, including:

The History of Dysport®

Originally developed to treat medical conditions involving involuntary muscle movements such as cervical dystonia and blepharospasm, Dysport® has become widely used for cosmetic purposes. It has been FDA-approved for aesthetic use since 2009 and is now used in 57 countries worldwide. In a study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 87% of patients who received Dysport® injections reported a noticeable reduction in wrinkles.

How Does Dysport® Work?

Dysport® works similarly to BOTOX®. Both are neurotoxins derived from botulinum toxin type A, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin above them smooths out, eliminating the appearance of lines and creases. Patients typically notice a difference within 48 to 72 hours, although the full results can take up to 2 weeks to appear.
